This exciting new musical production world-renowned flautist Elena Duran features songs of the three iconic Mexican tenors Jorge Negrete, Pedro Infante and Javier Solis, plus excerpts and stories from this golden age of Mexican movies.

Edinburgh will see the world premiere of the English language version of the show, which has enjoyed enormous success in Mexico.

With piano accompaniment, Elena showcases Mexican film and music using her incredible talents and drawing on her lifelong love for the nation’s culture. Her passion for Mexican film and music led her to develop this showcase which seamlessly blends some of the nation’s finest visual and audio offerings. Elena introduces and plays 15 of Negrete, Infante and Solis’ popular songs with clips from their movies.

Elena Duran is one of our greatest and best-known living flautists. She was last seen in Edinburgh at the Usher Hall with Stephane Grappelli. She enjoys an extraordinary career which has taken her all over the world working with internationally renowned orchestras and artists from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to the Moscow Virtuosi, James Galway and Sir Paul McCartney. She has played for the Queen and members of the British Royal family on numerous occasions. Last year, Elena represented Mexico when she played for the Smithsonian Institute Latino Center.

The show has been presented in Mexico City and around the Republic and after Edinburgh it will tour in Spain and then in the USA and South America. All film clips come from the archives of Televisa with the generous help of Fundación Televisa.

Elena will be accompanied on piano by Luis Zepeda (until 12 August) or Betty Woo (from 14 August).

"The pleasures of the performance came courtesy of Duran, whose clear, beautifully controlled tone and rhythmic responsiveness brought plenty of lustre to the proceedings. Enchanting." San Francisco Chronicle
